The visual of the two dolphins supporting a yin-yang between them, best describes my coaching model- C O A C H
Coaching is a relationship and so the dolphins are in motion together. Dolphins are significant as they are intuitive, playful, emotional (being water bodies) and symbolically they signify washing away of the past. As we know, coaching is concerned only with the present and the journey into the future (just like the dolphins, it washes away the importance of the past). In coaching, the quality of playfulness is profound. It is in playfulness that the heart unburdens itself, opens itself to the joys of life and new opportunities begin to unfold. The yin-yang is symbolic of the harmony and totality with which my client and I partner with each other. Honesty and truthfulness between my client and I, is mandatory for any coaching to take place.
Connect
Observe
Assess
Create action
Harbor change
• Using dolphin like empathy I CONNECT to the client right from the initial meeting. With the presence of concern and compassion we mutually understand and appreciate our roles and expectations.
• Then I OBSERVE through active listening all verbal and non-verbal communication. Actively listening to the clients issues, desires and expectations, sets a strong foundation for our coaching partnership.
• Then, together we ASSESS the client’s present situation. Clarification of his values, aligning goals to the client’s values, his strengths, barriers, support systems etc. are worked on. An assessment will clarify where the client stands and an appropriate course of action can be developed to enable the client achieve his dreams.
• Next, we CREATE empowering changes through strategies and structures. Action plans are evolved and through my( coach’s) cheerleading, the desired changes are obtained.
• Lastly but most importantly, it is imperative that we HARBOR the changes and ensure that the changes experienced are ever-lasting. This is done through a process of conditioning where the change becomes a pattern.
